Start reading

Open the original illustrated tutorial, “The Bookshop Between Pages,” from the library. It tells a short story and explains how to bring your own reading material. Tap the page to show controls, swipe or turn pages, and use the page strip to preview a destination.

Add your books and sources

The App Store release reads your own collection: import supported local comic files or connect your personal Komga, Kavita or Suwayomi library server. Your server must be reachable from your device and may require its own account. External source lists and source packages are not supported. Honbako does not include a third-party manga catalog or supply access rights to content.

External-source TestFlight builds offer Settings → Extensions → Extension repositories and compatible extension imports. Check the installed build’s What to Test for its available features. No providers are installed automatically.

Restore Pro

Use Restore Purchases in the app with the Apple account used for the subscription. Manage or cancel an Apple subscription in Settings → your Apple account → Subscriptions. If Pro is active, Settings shows Manage Subscription and opens Apple’s subscription management. Free users can compare Pro benefits and restore purchases. iCloud library/progress sync and the resume widget are available free. Remote MCP, Japanese reading guidance, cover mode, downloads, alerts and additional widgets are Pro features. TestFlight uses Apple’s purchase-testing environment.

iCloud and chapter alerts

Use the same Apple account on your devices and enable iCloud for Honbako. Library and source connection details sync together; downloads, imported files, passwords and extension packages stay on the device. After a restore, open Settings → iCloud Sync to reconnect a missing source. Choose Reconnect MangaDex for the built-in MangaDex connection, Restore for an approved extension backup, or open a personal-server connection to sign in again. Older app versions did not back up source setup, so a missing older connection may need to be added again. Notification permission and background refresh are required for chapter alerts; timing also depends on iOS and the provider.

Optional outer cover

On supported iPhone Duo hardware, Settings → Show Manga Cover controls the outer cover display. Its system accessory requires camera permission, but Honbako does not record photos or video or use the microphone.

Connect an AI provider

Open Settings → MCP Server, choose Remote or Local, and connect. Before connecting, Honbako shows what a connected AI can read; tap Continue to go ahead. Remote hosting verifies an active Pro purchase automatically, including during Apple’s billing grace period. One Pro subscription shares one remote MCP connection across up to five of your devices: each device that proves the same Pro purchase joins automatically and shows Connected with your other devices, so you connect your AI only once. MCP Permissions are the same on every device, and requests to change your library or sources appear on each of them; the first device to answer handles the request. To add a sixth device, remove one in Settings → MCP Server → Devices. Family Sharing members get their own separate connection. If Honbako says the remote server belongs to a different purchase, sign in with the Apple account that bought Pro and use Restore Purchases. Copy the MCP URL shown after connecting into your AI provider’s connector settings, then approve that provider in Honbako. Your provider must support remote MCP; availability depends on its own account and plan. Access settings control library/history, current-page reading and approved changes. Turning MCP off on one device removes only that device. Disconnect All Devices removes every device and revokes every AI connection. If you connected an AI separately on more than one device before shared connections, only the one from the first device to reconnect keeps working; connect the others once more.

Get help

Open a GitHub issue with your Honbako version and build, device model, iOS version, and the steps that led to the problem. Include a screenshot if useful, after removing personal information. For private support or deletion requests, email jun@honbako.xyz. Do not send passwords or private manga pages unless needed and deliberately shared. You can also report a reproducible issue in the public GitHub repository; public issues are visible to everyone.
